The House of Representatives today narrowly defeated the $700B bailout plan by a vote of 205-228-1 (Yea, Nay, No Vote). Bravo. (Read more at http://online.wsj.com/article/SB122270285663785991.html).

It’s been a busy week.
Former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto was assassinated after giving a speech at a rally with thousands of supporters present. Not only did this add a bit of instability to the world’s markets (particularly the Asian markets), it helped to drive oil prices closer to $100 a barrel.

US Stock futures drop after durable-goods data didn’t meet forecasts. Reports from Pakistan that opposition leader Benazir Bhutto was killed in a suicide attack are certainly playing into the drop.
Reports said that a suicide bomber opened fire on Bhutto at close range before detonating himself, killing at least 20 people.
